OK ! It's official ! The Gods hate me ! Either that or I'm Loki's plaything again !

Day 13. All is well at the last turning and the candling was fine on all 12.... ALL 12 !

Day 14 AM. No light/heat. Emergency check. New bulb needed. Done. Temp check ... WTF..lip ?! Temp through the roof and thermostat Kaput! All the poor little chippers dead.

I realy don't know whether to go for it agian ... if so. Broody or more outlay on techy crap

The wifes response was... "Remember they're only eggs" ..... This is my Third attempt ! and the bator's let me down each time ! Besides they were all developing ! grrrr...

Sorry. Rant over.

I figured you guys might understand

What you think ? shall I go broody next time or not rely on Ebay and go to a reputable dealer ?

Oh no! How disappointing....specially as they were fertile... :(

Where did you get your incy from was it from new???

Go for a broody if you have a reliable one. Its nice to do it the natural way as long as you don't want to hatch loads.

broody hen all the way! its brilliant to see a brood of little fluffy chicks following the hen around. and far more reliable than relying on technology.

mine refuse to go broody but now iv bantams and a fue are silkie xes so maybe. iv lost a couple of loads because of thing out my conrol its horrible

It realy isn't my day today ..... I've lost three attempts to post a reply here tonight also :-)11

I have/had a Covatutto 16, from E bay second hand. The one that failed twice before was a very old loaned Cunfew.

I'd love to try a broody but I have a very large Buff Orp Cock that has just grown his spurs and some X-bats with attitude. I hear only Bantams and small breeds can be relied on to go broody (?)

I have a Market I can go to in Hatherliegh on a Tuesday..... any suggestions for a breed that might fit my needs for a broody ? All suggestions other than "Elephant" apreciated ;)

PS.. I have 2 friendly Black Rocks also and another seperate run at need ...

Agree, can't beat a gold top for broodiness! Have one at the mo and she is very detirmined!

I will have a king suro rcom available soon second hand if you're interested...last hatch 19/20! :-)17

:-)01 Don't tell everyone Foxy ;)

How much would you want for it and how far do I need to travel ? A king suro r.com looks like a good Bator.... However cost is quite a determining factor for me as I've been made redundant recently. :-)09

Also ... goldtops ... will they survive the Orp ? Should I have more than one ? Need to be kept seperate ? :-)02

Are there bigger breeds that go broody well ?

EDIT: Just checked your site. I come up to the Cold Ashton/Warmley side of Bristol sometimes..... due to come up soon in fact....

Goldtops come in L/F as well as bantie size. For BIG -- my Brahma is a great broody/mum. Ros
