hiya everyone, can anyone tell me how old cockrels are b4 they start to make a noise? was thinking of getting hatching eggs so my grandaughter can help with the process and therefor learn about it all...prob is i live in a built up area and neighbours would not be pleased if i had a lot of noise going on so the boys would have to be disposed of  thanks in advance for help

Depends on breed, or whether LF or bantam. Had a d'uccle crow at 4 weeks :o our LS banty was 9 weeks, have got LF app aged 11 weeks, pekin boy 10 weeks & LS banty boy 10 weeks, silkie (possible boy) 13 weeks - still quiet (bet they arent in the morning now Ive said that  )

Some boys are quieter than others though, cant say any breed specifically, but know people who have more than one boy (got 2 myself) & it can vary, even between breeds.

thanks ncotb ill have to ask the breader i get the chicks off!!! deff dont think my neighbours will like it i have a lot of them lol

Hi, you may get away with one- the trouble is if you have two or more they compete in the crowing stakes- i have 15 at the moment and they start at 4am- i had them crowing at 1.30a.m the other night as the moon was full and it was "light" Good job i only have one near neighbour and they are ok with it.
regards, David :)

hi everyone im new to keeping chickens and i bought 4 japanese white black tipped tails bantams last weekend but what i want to know is when they are big enough will the cockerls crow as loud as standard fowl thanks

Hello and welcome to the forum :)
Bantams aren't as deep crowing as large fowl but can be just as noisy- they have a higher pitched crow and each is different so until they start you will not know. It takes them a few weeks to develop their adult voice- the first efforts aren't very loud or "crow like"
regards, David :)

Hi Silverwings, would love to see photos of your japanese! :D My bantams have a more of a shrieky crow if that makes sense?

hi foxy they are only little pullets at the moment they are about 8 weeks old i dont even know if there is a rooster among them yet i will put pics up when they get a little bigger
