Good Morning,

I've posted a couple of times before under the Topic "Flying Eggs". I live in Northern Cyprus, but this makes no difference to the question i'm asking.

I have Exchequer leghorns and Cream Legbars. I lost my best leghorn to a fox or dog whilst they were out. I had three of her eggs and have hatched them in an incubator so I know the Cockerel is doing his job.

The question I ask is what if I hatch some of the Legbars eggs ? what will I get ? or is it not a wise idea. ( Cockerel Leghorn, Hen Legbar).

Regards

Dave Lee

Give it a go Dave, no reason why they shouldn't be reasonably productive birds, Cream Legbars were created with Leghorn cockerels in the first place. I wouldn't like to speculate on what they will look like but it's got to be an improvement on a Cream Legbar hasn't it ;) , I believe the blue egg gene is held by the Legbar cocks so you will most likely end up with layers of tinted eggs.

Hello Dave,
hope you had a good Christmas and have a very happy new year.
I have a hybrid of Legbar/Leghorn, but the other way round, dad was a pure Cream Legbar, and mum a white utility Leghorn, she is a truly beautiful bird. White, with about a dozen pale grey feathers scattered in her plumage, and a Legbar head and crest but in white.
Now in her second year, having had a complete moult and back to producing almost daily large turquoise eggs.
If you want blue eggs, she must be the most perfect producer of them being a daily layer. I have had CLegbars in the past and both of them have been rubbish layers, but I like them as a breed so also have two youngsters at POL now.
Hope this helps, hatching is fun and rewarding, only drawback is cockerels!!

I will be interested to hear what you get Dave. I crossed Faverolles cockerel (white eggs) with cream legbar and got spectacularly beautiful pullets. I'm still waiting to see what egg colour they lay.
