I am once again, going to try and post some pics of my girls, here goes.

Did try, file too big, do not know how to make it smaller.

Hi Valerie,
There will be lots of ways but this is how I do it:
Using Gimp (free Photoshop like program) open the image. Pick the selection tool (next to top left on the tools panel). At the bottom of the panel is 'aspect ratio' put in 8:6.
Select the part of the image you want. Next select, Image > Crop.
Next, Image > Scale canvas.
Put 800 in the top pixel dimension of the scale window.
Apply the scale (the image will look really small now relative to how it was.)
Select File > Export and save it as a jpeg (or export overwrite the original)
When you close the program it will ask if you want to save. You can answer no as you have exported.
Post it to the forum.
Have a well earned cup of tea!
Alternatively, any image scaling program will work and you don't have to worry about aspect ratio. Landscape photos can be scaled to max 800 wide, portrait photos to max 800 high and I think you should be fine.

Rick, many thanks, don't understand a word,
looked for instructions of any sort when trying to post pics, but could see none at all. I have taught myself to email pics, sell things with pics, ads. with pics, so it has to be the GCF photo set up that is impossible to negiotiate.
If I am trying to post I cannot leave the page to read or see instructions. I can go to Omlet, ebay, Preloved, Birdtrader, email, etc., and post photos, why can't this forum's set up be as simple as the rest?

I found this
http://filehippo.com/download_icecream_image_resizer/
I haven't tried it as I run Linux (not Windows) but it should be the right kind of thing. The problem is that the big sites make it seamless (employ a programmer to make it so) and lots make this worth their while in the small print by gaining rights on the image you've posted (like Twitter and Instagram)
There is another way than learning to edit images and that's to buy a cheap old digital camera that can be set to take 800 x 600 images (a car boot or charity shop maybe?) I'm not sure what the max size of image is on this site but there was another post (pinned I think) that might say.
P.S. If you post from your phone you may find you can change the settings to take a small image (or use an app)
I know, it all gets a bit geeky! :)

Rick, thanks again for your reply, it really is very kind of you.
My digital camera is not by any means a new one, in fact an old one by GE.
My phone is so basic, (new but basic) a Samsung that does nothing but phone calls
I'm just not a switched on digital buff, simply not interested, do not have the time or the inclination. I know we are in the digital age, but it leaves me cold.
I still prefer a phone call to an email, more personal and caring, and even more would love a letter, and far less trouble than keep pushing buttons and keys all the time.
Yes, I am a senior citizen, would never dream of doing Facebook, Twitter, etc. and cannot understand people who find it necessary. I just wanted to put some pictures on the GCF of my lovely girls!

I've sent you a personal message with my email. If send a picture I'll resize it and send it back.
Us techno bods have to be good for something (and would like to see your hens)

Rick,
have sent a message, and tried to send photos, the system wasn't having any of it!!
If you could possibly let me have your email address I can send photos to you.

Rick, thank you so much,
I will find a way to do it myself, as it should be easy to do, but I found impossible.
I'm interested in other people's girls, and just love pics. of chicks.
Thanks also for the third picture of the babies, now about 15 weeks old, the little cockerel is going to a new home this evening.
The two big girls are "Fatima" and "Juno" and are six months old, but by no means fully grown yet.
They are friendly, intelligent, an absolute joy to have around.

Beautiful chickens Valerie. This is a breed we are considering to replace the Buff Orpingtons, which we have decided not to continue with because of all the serious inbred problems. Dinosaw was saying that Croads have excellent hot weather resistance and what I have read confirms that. The other breed we are considering is Brahmas.

Hello Chris,
Brahmas are also gorgeous. Croads are quietly excellent layers too.
Very intelligent, calm and dignified, so lovely to have around.
It has not been a hassle free year, sourcing eggs and hatching them.
When the fox killed the second of my first two last year, I always knew I would have more eventually.
If I did not have near neighbours, I would breed them certainly.
Just love them to bits.

Hi again, Chris.
I don't think there has ever been a lot of interfering in the Croad Langshan lineage. They made the German Langshan from it, but I think that is nearly extinct now anyway.
Perhaps because it is an excellent all rounder, and for years was recognised such, it was left alone, hooray!!!

Lovely birds Valerie, they really have come on since seeing them in the background of your gig Rube photos.

Yes, thanks Dinosaw,
They are lovely birds, I'm very proud of them, the second ones are still a bit babyish featherwise untidy at the backside, still not sure of their sex, one day I think, pullets, another cockerels. Still, thankfully, like Big Rube it must be clear very soon, what they are.
One little cockerel went to a keen new daddy a couple of days ago, and another is possibly rehomed as well. PHEW!! - thank goodness.

Hi Chickenfan and thankyou ,
I have been in this house for about 40 years, and the garden is just about getting as I want it, the girls get a nice amount of garden time, and I just love to see them heads down having a great time. Up until about 5 years ago I had a fox LIVING here on the bank where the Formium is.
Cut down Laurel, Rhodos and opened it up. As you may know I still have the fox very near, and lost my last flock on 22nd June, 2014.
Hope never to repeat that, it was my third fox total murder.
It is as secure as I can make it now, I hope.

I also think you have been clever putting the wire edge around your flower beds. Do you find that keeps them out?
