My Dear Friends
I need you advice about my cockrells.I have 2 youngsters and need to decide which is going to stay and which will have to go.
Which of both breeds is calmer and friendler?
Which one tolerate other cockrell which is older and much smaller than young lads.
My CLB has started to show aggression towards me and his mother(top hen at the moment). What I mean saing aggression? He wold peck and attack my hand.He wold not take food from my hand instead he would peck it or run away from it.This cockrell was raised by hen.
Maran was raised by me,he is big and never so far had showed aggression towards me but he do not like to be handled either.
What is your expirience with both of this breeds?

All our pullets raised naturally by hens ultimately became top hens Tygrysek. Think they are well equipped for fighting as their legs are stronger. They haven't much in the way of social skills as mummy sorted everything. It is sort of relevant with the CLB. I have found our CLB hens to be rather hyperactive (Lottie got so excited at grain time she had a seizure) except one -Lucylou. She asserted her dominance by a simple squark which sent all the others running. She said very little, but when she did speak the others knew she meant business. So in my experience the nature of CLB hens is variable and I presume the cockerels will be the same.

I know nothing about Marans but have heard they can be aggressive, just like Rhode Island Reds. None of our cockerels ever like to be handled Tygrysek, they just tolerate it. So a large cockerel with no aggression towards you has got to be good.

I have no experience with Marans Tygrysek, thought about getting some a couple of years ago and did some reading up on them which said that they don't like to be handled and have variable temperaments depending on the strain and that they are acitve birds, good foragers that prefer free range conditions. The fellow who runs our local poultry centre used to be big into breeding pure breeds and has a lot of experience with CLBs and the last time I was up there the conversation got onto them as I used to have a couple of hybrids based on CLBs which were a disaster. His word to describe CLBs was 'unstable' and he went on to say he didn't like them and that there was a lot of bad breeding going on with the single aim of producing a bird more likely to lay blue eggs. Oviously this post is a bit useless as it's all second hand information but from what you say I would go along with Chris and say the Maran sounds the better bird simply as he isn't being agressive to you.

Thank you for both reply's. I'm still thinking about it and can't really decide. Both of them has same father as they not pure breeds .My CLB hen is very quiet and rather prefer not to be touched even getting fertile eggs from her was a challenge as she did not liked being trodden by cockerel.
Marans is very timid and get out of the way of all hens but still try his luck with them. I think I give both of them more time to mature and see how the things will go . They personality still can change . I have only one hen of CLB but she is not hyperactive as Chris describing his hens, but she is more nervous I would say.
