I've just been looking through some old pictures of my birds & have come across this picture!!!
19
It's of my extremely broody Cornish Game bantam hen 'Hag' (whos is VERY reliable for hatching & brooding 3-4 lots of eggs per year!) who was doing a great job of sitting on a batch of her chicks this summer & has also taken "under her wing" 'Percey' - who is my very proven older lavender Pekin stock cockerel, who had been chased out of his house by another younger lavender Pekin cockerel & had taken shelter UNDER Hag!!!
This wouldn't usually have happened but Hag had somehow managed to get in with the lavender Pekins, had clearly been laying her eggs daily in a hidden corner of a spair house & had been probably flying back over the fence daily so we hadn't realised her routine! She had then decided to sit on the eggs & that was where we found her - doing what she does best & living with the lavenders!!!
Good old hag!!!
The best part of this is that she hatched 6 of her pure Cornish chicks & 2 pure lavender Pekins...that she'd clearly stolen!!!
Hag is now my only Cornish as i've slowly sold them all off to a good friend, but i refuse to part with her as she's so reliable...even if she does brood cockerels too!!!!!!!!!!!
