Back in August (old username, having password trouble!) I posted about a stray light sussex hen who we took in and integrated with our 4 girls. At the time she had hurt one toe but it seems to heal fine, however had always looked a bit odd. I check it over now and then and it has occurred to me recently that she could have bumblefoot, rather than an oddly healed injury.
Today I bathed it in an iodine solution and sprayed some dry iodine on after. I took a couple of pics, however I couldn't find a 'plug' or scab as such, its hard to see in the picture as there was still some dirt on her foot when I took them and she was a bit restless. I think it feels mainly fleshy, hard to describe it though.
She walks on it fine the majority or the time, although she quite often chooses to sleep in the nest box instead of on the perch.
If it is, is there anything I an do at home (apart from self surgery - I havent got enough hands!) or products I can use to try and treat it?
She's an older girl I think and not used to being handled, so I would be concerned that a trip to the vets for a procedure might cause her such stress it would be kinder to have her PTS if it came to that as I'm unsure how experienced our local vets would be with a chicken.
