I have a French Blue Maran who has been sneezing and sometimes coughing for about the last 4 weeks. The person I had her from said there's no need to worry or do anything as there is no discharge and she is vaccinated. I have put Respite in the water and she did seem to improve for a while, but it hasn't gone away completely. Am I doing the right thing by not 'doing anything' or should I take her to a vet? There is definitely no discharge and her nose and eyes are clean. She is otherwise very well, eating and drinking normally and laying an egg daily. I thought I noticed one of the others sneezing the other day, but I wasn't sure. I don't want this to spread to all the others.

There could be a number of reasons for this but I would try to get them treated sooner than later when it is easier to manage.

First, I would take a look at our Respiratory Disease article by Richard Jackson of Chickenvet

This gives you some good ideas.

Personally, I also use Garlic (a couple of fresh cloves crushed into water) and ACV (Apple Cider Vinegar, see our FAQ) which helps birds keep their immune systems strong and away from respiratory problems. Not so great though once they have them though.

Respite contains Garlic amongst other things...

Good luck and do let us know how they get on.
