Another query (sorry!) about my future house move & temp chook house!

I have a small coop originally made as a temp 'hospital' for 1 bird. It is 36" wide x 20" deep x 14"-18" sloping high. I'm wanting a temp home (could be up to 2 weeks) for my 3 girls, (2 large & 1 smaller breed) & thinking of using this. The roof lifts off & it has a pop-hole but I'd need to give them a nest box elsewhere in the run.

Can someone give me an idea of whether this would be big enough? I'm just not sure, given they need 12" perch room. I'll need something temporary but immediate from the first night until the new coop & run is built.

Our breeding coops take up to four Orpingtons, which are big birds Lucylou. The internal useable floor size is 810 x 1000. They are much taller though at 1070 front and 852 back. This is to allow for adequate ventilation without draughts. That would be my concern. I think your floor size is big enough but will you need to leave the pop-hole open to get enough air into the coop? The Orpingtons don't like perches, they just sit on the floor. As a temporary measure your hens could as well. The risk is always poo on the bottoms and you would have to clean out every day.

They only need about 8" per medium size bird Lucylou, maybe 10" for large fowl so 36" wide is ample. I agree with Chris on ventilation due to height though, personally I would get two lengths of 2X1s and put them under the roof so you have a nice 1 inch ventilation gap there at roof level, that's supposing your roof lifts off of course.

Thanks both of you. It does have a perch about 2" off the floor & I could quite easily put a couple of timber batons under the roof to allow more ventilation (I get what you mean, at the moment there are a few 1" holes drilled just under the roof which probably won't be enough) It will just take the pressure off for a couple of days after we move as there will be too many other things going on to start immediately on the chooks!!

Sounds fine to me. As they're members of the family they will just have to muck in with the rest of you! Has this useful little coop got a safe attached run? If so, just leave the pophole open maybe.

Hasn't got a run attached Marigold as at the moment they have a big enclosed space (they won't be able to have nearly as much in the new house :? ) & when I needed the 'hospital I sectioned the run off, but I'm thinking I might just put the coup inside the summer house, which is there already & let them out into a netted area in the day. The summer house would mean they'd be safe at night & could get-up early if they wanted to :D I'm sure I could cover the floor with something to keep it relatively clean temporarily.
