converting shed to hen house

hi all

over the past few days ive been converting my shed in to a hen house ive put nestboxes and perches in and ive built a feeder i just have to pop a door on for the hens to go in and out

im looking to have the door pop down to make a ramp i just wanted to know how high the door needs to be?

I see you have L/F and bantams so I'd say a foot should be about right.

Or do you mean how high off the floor ? If so four or five inches to stop too much bedding being dragged out.

Hi farmerjohn, Like the look of your shed set up. Just a point on the perches. From the picture they do not look very wide. Most books etc advise that they should be about 2" square with the top edges rounded off.

i didnt kno that ive rounded the edges of so they ent square but the ent that wide i think the high one is about an inch and a half and the back ones are about an inch they seem fine on them tho all the older ones go on the big perch and the younger ones go on the other perch none of them like the bottem perch lol

the shed cost me £40 brand new from my cousin (he does fencing)
and i made everything else out of an old chest of draws and a rabbit hutch lol

the whole thing cost me about £50 cuz i brought some shed paint

Looks good.

The feeder is like my home made ones which are very successful.

I think you might want to change your nest boxes by putting a top on which is at least as big as the bottom as I think you will find a lot of droppings fall into the boxes.

and the feeder is they seem to like it and theres another room to share

tbh they dont they only poo on the roof lol and thats cuz they stand on there looking out for me in the morning
