I have received an email from Compassion in World Farming who are campaigning to keep the planned 2011 ban on Chick beak trimming which is at risk of being overturned. Beak trimming involves cutting off up to a third of a chick’s beak with a red-hot blade or infra-red beam. (This is different to trimming chickens' beaks when they have overgrown when you are not cutting the blood vessel).
The Government are apparently set to perform a U-turn and condemn chicks to this procedure for years to come.
Compassion in World Farming really needs help right now - they have had some really successful campaigns in the past so I'm passing the message on to try to help them with this one too.
They already have 154 MP signatures but need 300 signatures for this issue to be formally debated in Parliament.... They are over half way there...
You can see the e-card to send to the government here.
Thanks for reading this post,
Tim.
