My cockeril has had to go back to the farm today as he was getting a bit noisy for my small estate. It was very sad as i really had become fond of him, what a character he was. He was a silkie and lived with a bantam marsh Daisy, who really got upset when i took him away.
Anyway I brought her home a friend or so i thought... I bought a light sussex POL about 18 weeks.
I put the sussex in the coup and let the MD in the garden and they chatted through the bars rather noisily so i let them out together, they were ok but extremely vocal, The MD makes no noise usually.
After an hour i had to go to work so put them back into the coup, obviously dont know what went on until i got home. The sussex was up in the nest box and the MD pecking around outside.I threw in some lettuce and as soon as the susses tried to pick any up my tiny MD suddenly wasnt having any of it and chased the huge susses round the coup having a go at her.
Anyway tonight the MD is sleeping under the nest box in the open on her own, wher eher and the cockeril usually slept but i shut the sussex in the nest box for the night.
How long will this bickering go on for, will they settle together eventually.
Does it matter that the MD is approx 35 weeks old and the sussex is only 18 and more than twice the size.
I am also worried that the noise that the sussex makes will annoy the neighbours as much as having the cockeril did, will she quieten down or is it becasue she isnt used to me or the MD being around.

The bickering can take a while to settle down, up to 2 weeks or more until they get comfortable with each other. Introducing small numbers is also a lot harder than a number of birds. If they have their own space, maybe separate the run into two with separate feeders so they can see each other that usually works well. Patience here is the key though! ;)

I cant seperate them as the coup is too small. I put some food in the nest area so the sussex can eat which i have seen her do. She is so much bigger than the MD I was surprised she is being bullied. Maybe letting them roam the garden tomorrow will help.
