hi all,
i have 5 cockerels of which none are crowing, they are in good health eating, free ranging etc. the youngest is probably 4 months old and the eldest about 9 months.
just want to know is normal for them not to crow? is there something wrong as i only have 2 hens. the hens are really tough and to my surprise batter the cockerels  apart from two cockerels.

thanks for any advice.

Are you sure they are cockerels?  Seriously, don't worry, I expect they will be in fine voice by spring when the sap is rising! ;) :D

Enjoy the quiet while you can
It wont be too long before one or all start, as Foxy said watch out come springtime, some heavy breeds take longer, bantams usually start fairly early. Ive got 5 here at the mo, 16 weeks - 1 year, all different breeds, the youngest hasnt started yet & the Silkie hardly ever crows.

What breeds are they?

yes the are definitely cockerels, two are derbyshire redcaps (bantams), 1 leghorn (LF), 1 maran (LF) & a wellsummer (LF). the redcaps have been crowing , but that was a months ago after winning a battle with the leghorn. but they do get on with each other very well.
I can not understand how the large fowls (i have) get dominated by the bantam redcaps & the hens i have. the probably 3 times the size aswell :-)19

:D yes i will enjoy the quite, thanks

I think with cockerels size isn't everything! :D I have a 9year old pekin boy called Priscilla, who is my "policeman" despite his diminuitive size keeps the huge large faverolles boys in check, seeing is believing, no-one dares cross the mighty Priscilla!
I have found that the bantams always start crowing before the large fowl do, and, if there is an older dominant (alpha)cock bird they may not crow until in a run with their own girls.
