I have 6 road rocks and am thinking of adding a cockerel what advise could you give me on what kind and what age of cockerel my hens are 26 weeks old

I would think a Rhode Island Red cockerel would go well with them Roadrk. About the same age or older. If you get one too much younger he may get beaten up and lose his confidence. Alternatively a Plymouth Rock but you may have problems finding one. Make sure whichever cockerel you get comes from a good laying strain rather than a show strain.

Any particular reason you want a male ? They do tend to pull the hens about in a small space but essential if you intend breeding from them. I too would go for a utility Rhode Island Red as the father of your Rhode/Rocks will be a RIR. Choose carefully or the next generation could be very disappointing as layers.
