we inherited a young wheaten pekin cockerel 10 days ago and he was fine at first then one day he wouldn@t come out of the coop. When i went to catch him he ran around and perked up ok. He's been ok for a few days but this morning his right eye is closed , he opens it then closes it . He came out and fed a bit and had a drink but then went back inside ! has he got a cold ? he stumbled one day and i thought it was mareks but he's ok now with that - does anyone have any ideas ?? he's in with 3 silkie chicks and 1 young gold top pullet - Cheers ! Updated info is he's still got eye closed this evening but came running out for his grain - he has no nasal or eye discharge or funny smell but he was gaping his mouth open with some breathsi - we bathed his eye and are reading our chicken books - is it a feather growing in his eye ?????? any help much appreciated !! 27 sep update he's been to the vets and got antibiotic drops to put down his throat - his eye was full of puss and closed together so much - like conjunctivitus . the vet noticed a tiny drop of fluid out of his rt nostril which i would have missed if she hadn't of said ! we're bathing his eye ( opening it ) and cleaning it now and 7 days antibiotics - he opened it tonight himself so fingers crossed he's on the mend ! ( we've isolated him too just in case )
