Does anyone know why my chooks should suddenly decide they don't like their layers pellets? I get sacks of pellets from 1 of 2 sources (neither are very convenient locations to where I live so just depends!) They don't sell the same brand but up to now it hasn't made a difference to the chooks. There hasn't ever been a problem with the food before.

I got a new sack 2 weeks ago, at first it was being eaten as usual then I realised it wasn't going down. In case it had somehow become contaminated I put some in a seperate dish but they didn't eat this much either. Since I've realised they haven't been eating the pellets I've been supplementing their feed with mash but obviously bit hit & miss.

Any ideas please anyone, perhaps I should just get a new sack.
Thanks

Hello, if there is nothing wrong with them- i.e. they are not stale- then i would leave them as the only food- they will eat them when hungry- pellets tend to be the least favourite food-if there is anything else on the go then the pellets are left. I know my hens prefer meal- but they are used to it-having said that they dont like some brands of meal-so it might be better to find a brand your hens like and try to stick with it.
regards, David :)
