Does anyone know what the cause might be of this problem. My chook is not well this morning, quiet & shaking her head. Its raining here & at first I thought it was shaking the wet off her head (the others did it a couple of times) but Marilyn kept doing it so took a closer inspection. She's a bit lethargic, almost dozing off & then shaking her head, standing quietly under cover & not moving out of the way when one of the others wants to get past her, slightly hunched up (the 'not well' pose). Didn't notice anything unusual yesterday, this seems to have come overnight.I've read this is a symptom of gapeworm but they were wormed with flubenvet 3 weeks ago.

Can anyne help?

Hello, have you checked for the usual- mites, nasal discharge, raspy breath? Head shaking can be caused by ear mites or she could be trying to clear her nostrils as in infection/mycroplasma- Is she eating and drinking ok?
regards, David :)

Hi Davidd,
Yes, checked eyes & nostrils & everything fine.

The only odd thing I noticed when I went to check on her again, she pooped just as I was looking at her & whereas normally chooks poop then close up their feathers over the vent (if that's a good description) she didn't & stood there showing all to the world for quite a few minutes. This did give me a chance to have as good a look as I could at the skin & it seemed OK, but I will have a good look for mites this evening. I'm hopeless at doing this on my own, can't keep them still, so will have to wait for OH. Also the poo was off colour, tan rather than normal greyish/brown, bit runny but not bad, don't know if this is also significant.

Hi lucy, tan poo is normal :) :) I would just see how she is in a few days time- as long as she is eating and drinking- hopefully she will perk up soon :)
regards, David :)

Just thought I'd update. Very odd but Marilyn was fine the next day. Must have just hated the rain!! (She hasn't laid since though but then I think all my girls are starting to moult so she's possibly slowing down.)
