Hi,

Ive had a brief search on the net and forum and cant seem to find much, Ive now got three new Dutch Lavender bantam chicks, Ive placed them in a box with heater, food, water and the temperature is fine. But why are they pecking each other? they seem to be pulling the feathers out of each others wings.... do I do anything? separate them? theres not one culprit they all seem to be doing it..

They are in with two other LF which hatched the same day, but they dont seem to be doing it.

Any ideas or advice appreciated.

This is normal, they exploring. They try difrent things to see what can eat a littelbit like babies when put everything in they mouth  You will se that they peck they toes too.Nothing to worry at the moment.

If they persist, there are anti-Peck sprays you can apply to discourage them.

At that age you would have to use a very mild spray like a budgie version. The full size hen stuff may be toxic for chicks and I would expect it to burn their skin as well.
Problems start if it persists to older age so as Chuck says stay watchful. They should stop in a few days.

Chicks like to peck at tiny bits of food or anything else that interests them on the floor. You are feeding them on the floor? They should not be on a smooth floor. Suggest you also add finely chopped grass blades, but not so many that they are not all eaten and start to turn yellow.
