As it says really? Found this site & just wondered if they're any good, never heard of them before. Its a UK address but I don't suppose that means much these days. www.eggshellonline.co.uk

Anyone had anything from them or heard about them?

Never heard of the company but by the look and price of the coops I would say they are simply reselling chinese imports, not necessarily a bad thing provided you know that durability will not be one of the strong points.

Usual problem with these - as well as being too cheap for the wood to be any quality, the coops and especially the runs are tiny in relation to the number of birds it says they will hold. The market is flooded with this sort of stuff and most people chuck them out after the first winter, when they leak and the wood splits. Just work out what it would actually cost to buy the materials for a good solid coop, with or without a run, and add on a reasonable amount for labour etc, and it just doesn't add up.
Any coop with an attached run will have this problem - remember the 2m.sq. of floor space per bird and work it out for yourself.

Had a bit more time to look at the site and I have to say the statement about the coops having 'wooden roofs to prevent red mite disease' doesn't fill you with confidence, if you actually had experience of chickens you would know red mite isn't a disease surely?. The best little snippet I saw was in the faq's and was as follows

'What are the best chicken breeds for a backyard chicken coop?'

'Decide what you want from your chickens. If you want them for eggs, you should get a breed that lays a lot of eggs.'

Well I never!!

Also, 'wooden roofs' implies a layer of felt on top of the wood, which us the worst thing for 'red mite disease!'
Maybe Eggshell is what they're made from?

Yes, I saw the roof & it didn't fill me with confidence either. I thought it would probably have to be replaced with onduline (which I have at the moment) Just browsing t'internet getting a feel for what's out there for instant use kind of thing. The really nice ones I've seen are over £700 !! Looking around for man handy with a saw & screwdriver - hubby - hopeless, might have to trade him in

I always ignore the number of chickens it says - don't know where on earth they get those numbers from

How about this 6 hen house for £425 http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Maggies_Six_Hen_House.html
or this one for £299 http://www.flytesofancy.co.uk/chickenhouses/Hobby_Hen_House.html

I see your in Herts, you could try Thornes at Stotfold and see how much their coops are going for, Carl who runs it is always very helpful. If you do go for one of the chinese ones then just give it a good old coat of preservative and you should get two years worth of use out of it I'd have thought.

Had you considered getting a plastic one? Lots of posts on here about how good the Green Frog ones are, I wouldn't ever go for wood now I've got one of these. Not that I would ever need to, since they never wear out or need treating with nasty creosote!

Yes, green frog do good houses, I have one myself, they are very portable too. http://www.greenfrogdesigns.co.uk

If you saw the problems we are having at the moment Lucylou, you wouldn't dream of buying a wooden coop! Green Frog seems very popular. Of course over here they would probably melt- many wooden coops have steel roofing.

Thank you dinosaw, I'd forgotten about Flytessofancy they look nice. I am now a 'friend' of Thornes on facebook!! Didn't know it was there, its the other side of the county from me but still do-able especially when there's cake at the end!
