I didn't realise one of my birds was not in the pen tonight and she has just been caught by a fox, but as we heard her screeching, the fox was chased by my dog and dropped her. She has lost quite a few feathers from her back and wings and has one or two deep bite wounds but otherwise looks OK, although very frightened. Unfortunately I haven't got any wound spray to hand. Does anyone have any suggestions? I have washed the bites in salt water and could use savlon or calendula ointment or an antibiotic cream.

I don't have any advice, but your chicken sure did well to survive that attack and well done to your dog for saving her ?

Happened to one of mine a few years ago. Hen was in shock and very bruised with a small bite wound. I cleaned the wound with salt and water. Might haveput a bit of iodine on it too. Kept her in a nice quiet run with her best friend for a week. Bird looked very hunched and depressed, Took her about 10 days to get back to her old self. No problems thereafter.
