Hi, ive just hatched some Japanese bantam chicks. They are 5 days old. One of the chicks has very sticky eyes since day 1. When i got back from work they were so bad that the eyes were closed and he couldn't see at all. I have been gently wiping them with warm water and cotton wool, then hes fine, running about, feeding etc. Ive been doing this at least twice a day and they dont seem to be getting better. they dont look infected, just looks watery. any advice greatly recieved.Thankyou.

Had problem like this before and used eye drops(over the couter from chemist) 1 drop in each eye.Worked wonders. The eye drops called Brolene

Those Brolone eye drops worked within a day! i did one eye first to make sure there were no side effects,it cleared up alittle within a matter of hours,so i did the other eye the next day. Chick seems happy and is mingling with the others. For future: the pharmasist wouldnt give me the drops for my chick, so i had to go to another place and say they were for me. Small white lie but alls well. :-)08

I'm glad it help you I would always describe symptoms and tell that patient is my mum:)I had them as my mum had simular problem with her eye and theese were leftovers after curing her.So when my chick was hatched and normal rinse with calmoline had't help I had used eyedrops.
