i have recently hatched out some ko shamo chicks in an incubator from my own flock. The hatch rate is excellent and i have successfully hatched out many, however, yesterday (13/06/11) one little ko shamo hatched and unlike the rest it could not stand up, when i had a closer look, the legs are so short, its asthough the top leg joints havent formed, almost like it has a body and just feet!!! i have never come across this before, it is not splayed legs. im wondering if anyone else has experienced this or know what has caused it. the rest of the chick is perfectly formed. it is a day old now but still cant stand up, should i give it time to see if it gets sronger on such tiny legs or should i relieve it of its misfortune but killing it??? what should i do, i want to do what is best for the baby xxx thank you

Sorry to hear about your chick! At least it saved you having to make a difficult decision!

Hi, sorry to hear about your little chick. I had a problem with my last hatch 7 out of 5 hatched but one was born with no eyes. It was just skin amd fluff where they should have been. We did have to take the decision and cull it. I think it's something that can happen which you can't do anything about. I have hatched 40 odd chicks in the last 6 months and only 1 was deformed. As said before at least you didn't have to do it. Hope all the others are happy And enjoy having chicks :-))
