Another chick has been born with a bloody-looking bum. Sorry to worry, but I'm wondering what this is? Has it been born with a prolapse? It seems as restless as the first one (which has finally settled and gone to sleep).

I think this chick has definitely been born with a prolapse. Her bum has a little red round lump. A healthy looking chick otherwise, plump and vigorous. Does anyone know what to do?

Try pushing it back in maybe Chickenfan. Otherwise just wait and see. Just make sure the vent isn't blocked with dry poo, which happens under the heat of the lamp. We've had a lot that had a blocked vent due to dry poo -forgotten why that happens though. Sorry for that.

I've realised the little strawberry-like thing on my new born chick is an umbilical hernia, rather than a prolapse. It was about the size of a medium wild strawberry when born yesterday late pm, today it is shrivelled and becoming hard. The chick looks OK and is bright and eating and drinking a little. Has anyone else had this? Should I be taking action, or is it safe wait and see what happens?

I could take it for my vet to check, but prefer to avoid the dangers of stress, getting cold etc.
