Hi just gone out to ducks and neighbourhood cat in with them. My dog scared it off but now really worried for them.
They are let out to forage during the day but put in their run if I go out any where and at night.
Now scared it may come back whilst I am not watching. What should I do?

You don't say whether they were in their run at the time, or out foraging. I would imagine the main problem might be that, if a cat could get to them that easily, a fox would find it even easier. If in their run, you will need to make it more secure. If out foraging, maybe they are not very safe unless supervised?

Hi,
I have both chickens and ducks with a couple of cats of my own as well as neighbourhood cats. I would doubt it would be a problem-more likely just curious. As ducks are noisy and depending on the breed often bigger than a cat I would have thought it would be ok.
Did the cat appear to be stalking them? or was it just watching? What breed/size are your ducks?

Thanks for your replies.
They were out of their run and foraging in the garden. I have enclosed this part with chicken wire but the back of the garden has a 8 foot fence.
Didn't see what it was doing as it shot over the fence when it saw my dog.
The ducks didn't seem to be that bothered which is even more scary and they didn't retreat to their pool either.
Don't know if it jumped over to wire or scaled the fence. It usually comes from the front and I thought the wire and fence would be enough.
Have just taken delivery of a new more solid coop and 12x8' solid covered run but will not be able to erect it till weekend.
Shame I cannot let them forage without me physically being there as the run they came with is tiny.
Do those fence spikes work and can a cat jump over wire netting as its only 3'?

My ducks chase cats off, but the park ducks, being smaller breeds are worried about them. If they are calls or mallard size ducks then you may need to watch a big hunter cat if your ducks don't mob it.
Dont waste your money on those small plastic spike strips, they are useless.
Tough call this one, but agreed with marigold if a cat can get in then a fox will and he wont think twice.
Can you run some electric netting around them?

I would consider a higher fence, although the ducks might not be able to get out, other animals can get in.

We have a 6ft fence around our chickens and last week we still had a fox attack, you could see the mud prints where it had ran up one of the flat panels! Luckily it didn't kill all our chickens!

I have calls (ducks) and 6 cats and never had a problem, dogs are my problem from the dog walkers in the next door field so we invested in electric netting. It keeps everything out, including foxes. I know that isn't always an option in smaller places but I too would be more worried about a fox out during the day than a cat.

Hope all goes well with the new coop.
