hi - when i opened up the duck house this morning, 2 of the 5 ducks stayed in the house, sitting side by side, pulling straw into the area around them. i assumed they were laying eggs so left them to it for a while and did other things. however, I've just been out again and they are both still sitting there so i opened the roof and they scurried to the other end of the house. i could then see that they had been sitting on 4 eggs, and there were quite a few downy feathers araound the eggs. I don't have a drake, so there is no chance of fertilized eggs. i removed the eggs (as I do each morning), and they then came back to the nest spot again and sat down. They haven't come out of the house yet to eat or drink.
Is this normal? Is there anything different i should be doing? They are Khaki Campbells, about a year or so old.
Many thanks
Pat
