my large cuckoo maran whos around 3 yrs old now seems to be drinking lots and pooing almost water only poops with a bit of solid in or runny green poo but she seems to be what comes across as being sick alot :-)05 this mainly seems to be when shes drinking once shes had a drink she brings it all back up again but a lot of the time into the water bowl , atlhough shes chased around a bit she gets to drink and eat so could this be down to stress from the other birds , shes moulting at the mo so that probably doesnt help .

Hi Karminski. We had this with Daffodil. Drinking loads and bringing up water sometimes. Never found out why, but has you Maran got sour crop. She may have some kind of digestive blockage which she is trying to flush out. She may just be being bullied off the feed, which is I think what started Daffodil off on drinking only, just to fill her crop because she was hungry. Sorry, lots of questions and no answers really.

no she hasnt got sour crop if anything shes always been really healthy .i dont know what to do with her wether to chance her in with the faverolles as my maran isnt a nasty bird and they are very calm or just house her on her own for the time being at night , once the other run is built which may not be for a few months yet i will happily put her in with the little banties as the chick she hatched is in with them as the big girls just wont except her into the group either .
i am getting angry with my big girls they seem to be getting really really bitchy { only best way to describe them } they have turned agaisnt one of thier own sisters so shes now with the banties and they are now turning agaisnt the maran :-)05 :-)05 really makes me think this is what is making my maran act funny .
when the little cockeral goes to his new home i will be totally stuck as i have his little sister who i really want to go in with the banties full time of a night but the maran chick whos with them hates her being in the house and i dont want her to be housed on her own either .tonight i sat there and watched the banties house and the maran was really going for the cockeral and his sister so they are back in thier little house for the time being but my little dutch millefluer seems to snuggle into the maran as if shes mum since her sister died last month those two have become very attached to each other :-)05 :-)05

It sounds like she is poorly. Drinking copious amounts, and excreting just water is an indication of an imbalance caused as a consequence of an underlying problem, usually tumours or chronic renal disease, another alternative would be a gut infection, however she would have looser droppings not just water.

she has both foxy ,sometimes just water then other times its watery with runny dark green poo although over the past few days they have had about 1 marrow and a cabbage in each pen thats probably added to the colour i'll keep a very close eye on her .i put out 4 feeders this morning and one of them is 1 metre long and she was pushed of all of them :(

Just a thought - if you think it is simply that she isn't getting a chance to eat could you take her out of the pen twice a day, and let her have a good feed undisturbed, or maybe put her with a bowl of feed and some water in say a dog cage in the hen run during the day so she can eat without being bullied.

Of course, she may be being bullied because she is feeling unwell and unable to fight back, hens are not known for their sympathetic nature.

Green poos is often a sign of internal infection Karminski. But I think in this case it may be because all she can eat is weeds because she is being bullied off the feeder. So as DBE suggests separate her and give her a chance to eat or add for feeders to the run.

i made up 5 feeders this afternoon when i got back and as soon as she goes to one some rush over to her and push her away when i put my dinner on in a bit i am tempted to try her in with the favs i dont think she has anything contagiuos as shes very bright and alert .i did try her in with the banties but the litle cockeral made hell of her and shes 3 times his size dont know wether to try that again ummm dont you hate it when it all goes wrong .

Why don't you just put her somewhere on her own? Poor girl sounds as if she's starving! You only have to separate a corner of a run with some netting or something, so she can rest and feed.

already have done shes in the little house with attached run now i just need to fnd something suitable as a feeder so she cant knock it all over was thinknig of getting those little round things that you screw to the side of the runs , just wish i could work out why my girls are starting to be horrid little monsters :-)05

Chickens don't like change Karminski, same as a lot of humans. That can turn them a bit nasty (humans) and you have moved things around quite a bit recently so perhaps that's what has upset them?

more then likely its that but its all done now and they have more shelter and a nice clean good cosy house and weather protected by the tree what more could they want   .tonight there was a sudden calm in there it felt weird really makes me think now its stress thats making my maran dodgy .
dont ya just love chickens  i will be keeping a very close eye on her for at least another week an she'll get specail treatment :D .
