I'm thinking about letting my goose sit on some runner eggs. But is she too big for them - will she squash the eggs or the ducklings? Are there any other problems that may occur if she raises them?

She's a 13-pound White Danish goose.

Hiya :) She likely will squash the ducklings when they hatch, but she may not, depends on how experienced she is and what the nest situation is.

Thank you, dorsetduckowner.

She's not experienced at all, since we're celebrating her first birthday (or should I say hatchday?) this coming Thursday. But she seems to have really good instincts from what I've seen of her nest-building and handling of the eggs she's been laying (65 and counting). Always laying the eggs in her nest, always taking care to let the egg harden before she sits down, always covering up the egg before leaving the nest. She lays almost like clockwork every second day and spends lots of time gently talking to her egg.

I only have enough grass for one goose, but I think the runners could be good company for her. Not that she's ever alone; always one of us out there with her during the day. But us humans don't really like to frolic in the pond ;).
