Amongst my mottly crew I have a beautiful Silver Campine. The person who bred her & 3 others I had, bought some eggs from 2 places & didn't really know what she'd got. I chose my 4 for their looks (& Scruffy chose me!) Its turns out I have a Cuckoo Maran, my Scruffy cockerel & this Campine.

I have been trying to find out more about the breed without much success apart from the fact that they lay white eggs & there are 2 colour varieties Silver & Gold. I have found out that it is on the Rare Breed Registry as it doesn't have a breed club of its own.

Can anyone enlighten me further? What is the Rare Breed Registry?

I'm just interested as she's so lovely & so different to the others. I get a bit worried sometimes about her being bullied which is what prompted me to find out more about them & their nature.

Hi,
I don't know anything about the campine breed - sorry! but here is the rare breed survival trust website
http://www.rbst.org.uk/watch-list/poultry

On some of the rare breeds there is a link for more information- but sadly not he campine! - I'll have a look in the books I have to see if I can dig anything up for you!

could contact david scrivener he knows alot about rare breeds. wrote alot of books including rare breeds book :)

Thanks pebojuno, I had a look at the RBST site & she's considered in the critical list of rare breeds :o I'd better look after her then!! Also surprised to see Sussex's are also on that list - I've got one of those too (although I don't think she's quite such a 'pure' example)

Thanks also yorkshirepekin, I'll look for David Scrivener's book. How would I contact him? (being relatively new to this I don't know anyone in the world of chicks :) )

If she's that rare, would you consider breeding from her?
I am a member of the Rare Poultry Society, and do have a current breed list from them, apparently there are 11 Campine breeders in the U.K. I do have all their phone numbers,so if you'd like me to pm them to you I will.
There could be a breeder close to you.
