I have an Araucana that can't lay her first egg, but the vet has no calcium injections, and it is flooded where I am so I can't get to another vet. I've bought some calcium tablets 400mgs and will try crushing and giving some of this. Does anyone know how much is safe to give by mouth?

I know this is a very late reply, but for the sake of browsers let me comment. From a quick research, you can give 50-100mg calcium per 1kg weight. Alternatively, a drop of liquid calcium plus vit D3 given orally can help. In addition to this, you can give the bird a warm bath by standing her in a bucket of warm water up to her vent area. You can find more helpful tip in this site I found during my research: http://littlefeatheredbuddies.com/info/breed-eggbinding.html

Thank you very much for your advice Poultryman. It is useful to have this information.
