Hi Chickadoodle,

The photos are fab, all of them, but back to the chick ones. I simply adore the two chick under mamas wing. It would make a beautiful card- just wondering could we somehow collaborate on here to collect some members photos for say a xmas card collection or calender and all the proceeds go the running of this forum or some other good cause re hens? I am really struggling to find a half decent xmas card of chickens and am considering getting some of my own girls photos onto a card....

Just recevied my RSPB Xmas Card Catalogue, with some beautiful designs and photos. Would much prefer to buy a chicken themed pack! Just checked out the BHWT site but their xmas cards are not really for me, (like some of the other goodies though. )

Tim - any thoughts.
 
Yes, fine by me, I would be happy to contribute photos (but my photo skills aren't that great to be honest..).

I wouldn't be able to take it on as a project though as I'm so pushed for time between now and Christmas. because of the shows and work I have to do on the backend of the site...

but happy to support it and would certainly buy a calendar or two :D

Right- it may be something I could take on, although I think I am a little late in the day for Xmas.
I also start a new job in a couple of weeks. BUT I will give it some thought and hopefully, other members maybe could contribute their ideas. I am sure we all have some adorable photos of our chickens, which could be used in some way. I used to handcraft cards, which is something I could possibly look at again. I will make a few enquiries about costs etc.

In the meantime could all you lovely chicken people give some feedback on this possible venture.

After re-visiting the BHWT site, there is a link to a lady who handcrafts cards. The Xmas cards are amusing and great value plus free P&P. Think I will be ordering some! She also passes on a donation to BHWT. Maybe this is the answer in the short term?

Ah that will be Lisa. She also edits the BHWT newsletter (we've had a couple of mentions in there as "a friendly forum"!)

I did actually enquire about her creating a custom poultrykeeper christmas card 4 or 5 months ago but she hasn't got back to me - I know she's really busy though. As my 'temporary' solution I bought 2 packs of cards from the British Waterfowl Association which are really nice if you like waterfowl...

Perhaps it will be too much work for this year but something we could do for next with a little more time?

We could have a 'sticky' post for people's top photos of 2011 with the best going onto a calander / cards at the end of the year. I'd prefer to give any profit to charity though..

Vistaprint is reasonably flexible for these sort of things I think.

What I'm going to do is split this topic Sharron to create a new one.
 
Hi Tim, What a sensible man you are, I think next year might just be the answer and yield a greater response plus those all important snowy pics of our girlies.....yet to be taken!

I did check out Vistaprint which is definately a possibility. I also think that if Lisa could come up with something for us (next year), given her connections with the chicken world etc..... it might just be the answer. Her cards are humourous and very professional looking and I will be ordering some over the next few days.

Anyway back to the original photos and post from Chickadoodle which got me thinking- I have copied the link to her husbands facebook photos and posted it at the end of this.

He has a variety of albums on facebook, and this particular photo really caught my eye, its just beautiful, (along with many others). Not sure if you can only view it if you are a facebook member, maybe chickadoodle could somehow post it on her for all of us to view?? (please)

Any thoughts, either way, would be greatly appreciated, and I can't think of anything nicer than having our own xmas card collection, or calendar crammed with OUR forum members best pics for Xmas 2011.Thanks Sharron.

OK, how this...

You collect them but we have a sticky on the site where you can upload smaller versions of them - say 500 pixels wide so that they 'fit' and can be viewed by all? We could start the sticky post in January. This would ensure they get uploaded for all to see (many people are put off posting photos because of the resizing).

I think we should number each photo 'entry' you post then have a separate post around the time we need to decide so people can vote on their favourites (for say a month....?) then we add up the votes and the top 12 go on the Calander?

If we included some small banner type ads, I could ask the site sponsors to see if we could get a 'small gift' to give to the best / most popular / winner which would be an incentive for people to get snapping with their cameras!

Profit to go to the BHWT or another rescue oganisation?

What do we all think??

I am in the process of sorting out Christmas cards for family, and have one completed so far, bit of a duck theme though! Will post the front page and caption later when I work out how....happy to print off some as christmas cards, any monies can go to the BHWT not a problem! :D
 
Hi folks,

We are up and running. Have received the first seven rather lovely photos for consideration of our
2012 Calendar! and/or some cards.

ALL Poultry photos are welcome and members votes will device who gets shortlisted for the Calendar. ALL entries will be considered and this will be set up in early Jan by Tim. In the meantime I will be keeping a folder on my own PC of members entries.
