Just thought I'd pop in and say I am still here. Ive had a busy week with my very broody silkie, Ethel, who has refused to be broken. Ive finally given in and she's in her own area within the pen, happily sat on 6 eggs which should be due for hatching the 8th/9th September. Im going in twice a day to remove her from the eggs to ensure she eats/drinks and has her dustbath, then she happily wanders back to her eggs. Not sure what ive let myself in for, but im sure she will look after any chicks well. The other chickens can access her area if they want, but a few growls from her, and they soon come running back out lol. :D

You're in for a great time, hip chick. What sort of eggs are they?
Reminds me of when our kids first wanted chickens and we got 8 Silkie chicks, a few days old.
6 boys and only 2 girls ....

lol Marigold. They're silkie eggs though im hoping you were incredibly unlucky with all those boys. what are the odds of getting 6 boys and only 2 girls !! I will rehome them no problem Im sure, but I have already forewarned neighbours that they may have to put up with the racket until I do so. I let the grand children talk me round, just hoping i wont regret it
