Help - I've just realised that one of my pekins (Myrtle) has bumblefoot and I'm off on holiday for 2 weeks on Saturday. A neighbour is looking after them who used to have pekins but I can't really rely on her to nurse them. She (Myrtle, not the neighbour) doesn't seem poorly at all but I have noticed she is sleeping in the nesting box rather than perching lately but put this down to disorientation due to a new chicken house. She has had it for several weeks but I thought it was a splinter that would work its way out - only just clocked this afternoon what it is (definately - identical to all the photos). Will call the vet in the morning to see if they can give me Terramycin which I understand is a spray on antibiotic? Any advice greatly appreciated - just don't want to lose her while I'm away. Almost feel like cancelling the holiday....

Just took her to the vet this am and he cut it open - no pus yet so caught early hopefully. Gave her an antibiotic injection and aureomycin for the water for 5 days but he said it might need looking at again when I get back. Fingers crossed.....

Found this post a little late, I hope she's recovering well.

The advice for bumblefoot is normally to squeeze the lump to remove any puss. In some cases, the lump will require piercing to get the puss out. Once drained, an antiseptic cream can be applied and a covering to prevent infection getting in. Antibiotics can also help prevent bacterial infection.

Sounds like your vet did a good job.
