Has anyone tried a bucket drinker? See http://www.ukpoultrysupplies.co.uk/products/galvanised-chicken-waterers.html
I need another galvanised drinker, like the conventional ones on this link, but then I noticed the bucket drinkers at the bottom, and wondered how they worked, and if they're any good. None of them have any customer reviews yet.

I use these and find them very good. I tend to raise them off the floor slightly by putting them on a paving stone or two as the hens tend to scrat around and flick bark into them

You can't put apple cider vinegar in their water with these as it will rust the bucket too

Thanks for that. I wonder if the conventional type of cylindrical drinker might score points for taking up less floor space in the run, though? I knew about the ACV, but I never use this, so no problems. I always place any type of drinker up quite high, about 7-8 ins off the ground, at chest level for the smallest hen, and this does a lot to keep the water clean, as you say. But I expect this would be more difficult with a bigger bucket drinker.

In the end I ordered a new 1 gallon traditional galvanised drinker from UK Poultry Supplies, see link above.
It arrived today, within less than 48 hours of my order. Unfortunately there was a manufacturing fault in the drinker, which I discovered when filling it. Part of the rim at the bottom of the inner sleeve had a 1" faulty seal to the base, so that water leaked out faster than I could fill it. This was only evident once the outer sleeve was removed, so the person packing it wouldn't have realised anything was wrong.
It was delivered at 1.30 today, tested at 2-30, photographed and an email sent to UK Poultry Supplies by 2.54.
Reply arrived with apologies at 4.43, saying replacement would be sent tomorrow for courier delivery on Friday, and asking me to hang on to the faulty one for now, in case the manufacturer wants to arrange collection at no cost to me.
I thought such excellent customer service merited some publicity. I haven't ordered from this firm before, but I chose them because their price for this quite expensive item was below some of their competitors.

It gets even better!
Yesterday I sent another email to Mike at UK Poultry Supplies, thanking him for his response and copying the review posted above, which I had also posted on Practical Poitry Forum, where I'm a member.
He replied today, saying

"Thank you very much for your kind words. It’s great that you’re a member/moderator of those two groups. We’re a regular subscriber to Practical Poultry and have heard many positive things about both forums.

We’d be happy to support the forums by offering a discount to its members. Use these two codes respectively for 5% discount off all orders…

Nice! I like the picture of the brooder and 0.5L drinker being demoed by the chicks.
