All three bantams are now officially broody!

Despite all attempts they are being very persistent - all they want to do is sit one on top of the other in the nestbox - all day. When I try shutting them out, Flo gets very distressed and flies to sit on top of the hen house. Mabel and Phantom queue up on the ladder like ladies waiting for the shops to open on the first day at the sales!

At least they are giving the neighbours some peace. ;)

How long are they likely to be 'out of action' for? Are we talking 3 weeks or 3 months?

hi, they could sit for a good few weeks- have you not got an iron/mesh cage you could put then into?- one at a time- no bedding just a wire floor-and food /water- and keep them out of the house during the day- they will give up eventually :o

Hello All,

Hope you and your chooks are all well. Just thought I'd give you an update on my 3 and am delighted to report that they've finally decided to stop being broody. :-)08 Only took them 5 months! (I thought it would never end).

They are all now going through the moult, poor old things, so looking very scruffy and there are literally hundreds of feathers everywhere. Oh well, at least they're getting out of bed in the mornings now!

Do you think it would be okay to worm them straightaway, as I've not been able to do so since broodiness struck (in May) or should I leave it a couple of weeks?

I have to confess to feeling rather smug when I saw your post back in May, as I thought I'd cracked my broody problem by putting mine in a broody coop at the first sign. It cured them after 3 days maximum, each time throughout the summer.

Then, my head hen Blackie went broody early Sept and I didn't bother as I thought that as it was the end of the season she wouldn't be serious about it for long. Well, she's still there, either in the nest box or on top of the house if I shut her out, really grumpy and bald on the front. Nothing I do will shift her now, so I've learnt my lesson and will shut her up at the first sign in future.

Pekins are lovely, but sooo broody.

Not feeling so smug now :)
