We live in Crete and have one gander, 5 ducks, 40+ chickens and 6 turkeys all free range together. We have a very broody turkey, Piggle, but unfortuntaley our males are only four months old so she is not going to produce her own young yet. She was so broody that she was virtually stalking the chickens and as soon as one laid an egg she went and sat on it, having to be prised off with much fussing and moaning(her not me) to retrieve the egg. She has stopped laying her own eggs. So ... we have decided to give her a go at hatching some hens eggs. She is now sat very happily on 18 of them. What we are worried about are the following things:
1. Will she turn the eggs like a chicken does?
2. Are the chicks likely to hatch?
3. If they do start to hatch will she squash them as she is obviously much heavier than even the largest chicken?
4. Will she look after them if they do hatch or should we put them with a chicken that will have hatched her own chicks about 4-5 days before?
Can anyone advise us please? :?

Umm that's got me stumped Carolyn sorry... I don't keep Turkeys so I'm not so good here

I hope Miks is around because I'm sure he'll have some answers....

Also, have a look at this post: http://poultrykeeperforum.com/viewtopic.php?f=54&t=2893

As you will see there is a photo of a Turkey rearing some Goslings...
