Hello,

we have a hen that goes in and out of broodiness. Well, we have three of them (Mum and two daughters). As they are our pets I am happy to let the nature to dictate... It is quite difficult to get them out of broodiness anyway. They are very good hens, very devoted and overprotective. None of them ever left the nest or baby chicks.

I am offering their services to any of you who wants to breed your own chicks but don't have a broody, or space or time...

We can provide full service - broody, nest in a small nursery (sturdy hutch), bedding material, safe outdoor run in the garden and all TLC in the world that is needed :-) Broody will stay with us, you will supply 6-8 eggs of your choice and chicks can stay with us for those 4-6 weeks until the broody decides they are independent enough. Or you can take chicks away as soon as they hatch if you can provide heated place for them.

We don't expect you to pay for this although a donation of poultry food or some eggs (if you already have your own flock) will be appreciated.

As I normally work over two counties I am willing to collect the eggs on my way. We are in central Devon and I travel up to Somerset regularly.

If this is of any interest to you, please get in touch by PM.

I can't help, but I just wanted to say I loved the title of your post!

Thanks :-)

Here is a picture to give you an idea...

Oh what a lovely picture! so so cute! :) Sorry you're too far away - I would dearly love to have put some eggs under a broody! My incubator is full too overflowing, and with a test hatch of brown leghorns from Chris arriving in a week, I've got to leave space - of which there is none at the moment! I'm hoping (for once in my life) that there will be some clears in the eggs in there when I candle later today!

Don't worry Chris, there are eggs due to hatch the day before you eggs get picked up, so there will be some cradle space! :D

That's a lovely photo! I may be old fashioned, but in my opinion it's much better for chicks to have a 'real' mother to show them the ropes!! I probably won't be popular for saying that and I know it's not practical for everyone by any means, it's just my personal opinion and the way I would do it if I was going too.
