Good afternoon, one of my bantams is broody, I've just read in another post about buying fertilised eggs to hatch but, happy to do so, but she hatches 6 eggs and they all turn out to be males? or would she accept young chicks already sexed to bring up? not sure if the chick thing is possible?
My lovely ladies are getting very old now and a few younger ladies would be welcomed.

Introducing young chicks to a broody is very possible - quite a few people do it - put some golf balls or eggs you don't need under her until you find little chicks - get them as young as possible - good luck :-)17

if you want some cream legbar eggs to put under her i have some but dont know where you are, im oxfordshire. they are auto sexing.

I'm in Wickham, Hampshire. Auto sexing - excuse my ignorance - how does that work?

means you can sex them as day old chicks by the colour of their fluff. most breeds you cant tell until they are older

If hatching eggs under a broody, all probabilities you would hatch some cockerels. Buying day old chicks unless sexed at day old could also incur rearing cockerels. Good luck with your choice, rearing chicks is great fun. If you do not want to despatch the cockerels I would go with day old sexed birds.

Sexed day olds would be a good option but finding a reliable source could be difficult. If she's sitting, you've got three weeks at least to source some.
Auto sexed as stated, or sex linked crosses.

if you hatch out pure breeds you should be able to re-home the cockerels. i have never had any problems re-homing my cream legbar cockerels. i just put an advert in the local feed merchants and normally get several calls.

there man on preloved sometimes has day old chicks upwards already sexed but hes nearer essex way.

Thanks everyone - Cream legbars are now 3 weeks old, so a bit to old, perhaps I'll give the eggs a try next time round when she broody so I know she'll sit on them for the correct time. Keep you poested.

if you want cream legbar hatching eggs in the future pm me. mine are laying well and fertility is good im north oxfordshire.
