Hi
I have a broody light Sussex and wondered if I got hold of some hatching eggs could I put them under her. If so, could I leave her in the run with the other 3 hens?

Thanks

Marc

three other broodyhens, or three non broody hens? :-)11
I dont know where you can get hatching eggs from, but keeping a broody with three other broody hens is never a good idea. :-)07 They squabble and steal each others eggs. :-)07 :-)07 keeping a broody with other hens is not ideal, even if they are not broody. It is best to put her in another cage. This is best done at bedtime, when its dark. quickly and quietly move her to her new run and allow her to settle with her eggs. She must have acces to water and food at all times, and should have an attached run so she can strech her legs.

She will do much better in a seperate space for lots of reasons.

Suggest reading Hatching under Broodies in the Incubation and Hatching part on this Forum . Should be read by all who are contemplating hatching with broodies.
