Howdy,

My chicken has a broken leg, I was wondering
if there's any type of therapy for it? ;)

Hi CC -----I think its 'treatability'depends on a number of things.eg size,age.health of bird and site and type of fracture.A simple fracture in a light healthy young bird may well heal with splinting to immobilise the fracture. A heavy bird with a fracture involving a joint or a more awkward site to immobilise would be a more difficult challenge. If it were me I would splint and cage rest as long as the bird was not suffering for doing so
A broken leg is very painful - so,I would not consider it fair to try and treat the bird if I really didn't feel it had a good chance or if it was distressed.Just my feelings! Ros
 
I agree entirely with Podstable CC. Personnaly,to be on the safe side for the welfare of the chicken and as there will be a permanent weakness there anyway, I would reluctantly despatch it. You don't say how it happened, but could be dietary in a hybrid hen -lack of Calcium at the critical point of lay, before they are really fully skeletally developed.
 
I think I would also have to agree and I am as soft as cart grease when it comes to the girls but I could not see one of them suffer.

And she just has a small limp when she walks.

Could be other things then CC. Bumble foot or other foot injury, like a broken toe, knee or hip sprain. She wouldn't be walking with a broken leg.

I don't think it is a foot injury, because a predator grabbed hold of her leg.
Maybe a sprain? If so how would I treat it? :?

Arnica gell -herbal remidy they use for horses and our vet used it once on herself for bad bruising. But it will make her leg all gooy and then dry hard losing insulation. So I would just leave it alone CC. It would help if she didn't have to do any running or jumping on and off high perches for a while.
 
Until she stops visibly limping and then two weeks longer CC, just to let healing internally complete.

Poor little girl. Hope she gets better soon.

Yes that sounds fine CC. Good idea to give her some company though, if you have another suitable hen she gets on with and won't bully her.
