Hello all

My hens have plenty of room to scratch around, are well fed and seem quite happy doing their chicken stuff.

This is perhaps a silly question but, do they ever get bored? Is there anything I could get for them to keep them entertained?

Many thanks

Osric

i have read that hanging old cd's in there run can entertain them
i hang a wild bird nut feeder in their run filled with cat biscuits and i also hang cabbages on wire they love pecking at these as they swing back and forth

An old hanging basket with cabbage and other veg scraps from the garden helps too apparantly. I'd not worry about them being bored as long as they seem happy enough and don't start pecking at each other :( - Oh and they love a dust bath if they don't have access to free range- they're pretty easily pleased really!

As others have said,if they don't seem bored,I wouldn't worry too much.If they are bored, you will know it by them feather pecking,or some other displacement behaviour.I haven't tried hanging c.d's in my chooks run,it is left open so they can please themselves where they go.I have tried hanging broccoli and cabbage on the inside and also outside their run.Mine hate this, they prefer me to put the greens on the ground,I think it's because when they peck it it doesn't swing back at them  ,it rolls a little way away and they can go after it pecking.
But mine only have a small run attached to their house, supposedly suitable for 4 lf,or 6 bantams. In daylight the run door is open so they can wander where they want.
