Going through my photos I came across these from 3 years ago. It shows Summer our Mechanical clockwork hen settling down for the night in her favourite roost all by herself as was her preference. Loner, serial broody, fighter of cockerels and survivor of a fox bite to the neck. Always contrary, always tough as old boots one of my favourite ever chickens.

Would have made a good Prime Minister?

Brexit negotiations would have begun with her pecking everyone present, but ultimately she would probably have sold us all out for a bag of corn.

I love the description 'mechanical clockwork hen.' Was it the walk or the pecking action?

It was the walk Rick, just like someone had wound her up and let her go. Her daughter was also a loner and a coccidiosis survivor who was literally at deaths door when she turned the corner hence earning her name Phoenix. Goes to show that personality traits can be handed down. She was forever jumping onto you from floor level, very friendly but absolutely hated being handled. Crikey it feels like nostalgia Friday.
