I have a small arch leading up the steps to the hen run, which is covered in honeysuckle. Yesterday, I saw what looked like a darker area on top and as I peeped over, I saw a small nest, made of moss, with 4 eggs in there. I happened to have my phone, taking pics of my flowers, so quickly took a pic. The nest is very small, about 4 or 5 inches across (ish), much smaller than a blackbirds. Of the small birds in my garden, there's lots of robins, long tailed tits, blue tits, gold finches. Is it a robin?

Goldfinch? Robins lay white eggs with red markings; long tailed tits make a mossy domed nest ; and bluetits eggs are tinier than this.
Great picture, Tweetipie. Shall be interested to hear how the nest succeeds.

Definitely Goldfinch, from the eggs and the nest size and shape. Keep us informed, our robins in the herb planter are getting quite big, the other nest is on a rake in the corner of the shed, juveniles too small to see yet, but plenty of chirping from nest. The peregrines on a nearby pylon had their eggs hatch yesterday.

I had another look today at the nest and it is very, very, small, I exaggerated somewhat. The eggs are also very tiny. Because the nest is in a postion so easy to view, on top of a honeysuckle, I can see if she is on the nest or not. She didnt seem to mind me going up and down the steps to clean and feed the hens when she was sat on the nest. I will keep an eye, see if I can find out the mystery breed. :-)

Big arrow marks the location.
