i am sure a few of my girls have scaly leg even though i treat them at least once a month with johnsons scaly leg spray also i treat the houses weekly with poultry sheild an the run gets cleaned every few weeks with jeyes fluid , i have been reading up on treatments but theres so many so i would like to know what really does work best ???

Just what I do!--- soak legs and feet in surgical spirit to kill mites , next day then weekly rub in loads of petroleum jelly or liquid paraffin for about 5 goes. Then carry on the jelly/LP once a month. Seems to work. LP and PJ much cheaper to buy at chemist than Scaley leg spray. Ros .

i already have L/P unless it has an out of date mark which i dont think it has :? will see if mum has any s/s in the cupboard . i never see them pecking away at thier legs so i dont really know if they have it or not but as they are moulting so badly its differcult to tell .

You will know if your girls have scaley mite - their scales on the feet are raised with what I can only describe as white flakes in between them. I bought two old orpington girls a few years ago from an auction as I felt sorry for them, they must have had about 2" of scaley mite "lumps" on their legs, but after a few months of treating them with liquid parafin they were as right as rain. Nobody should let their girls get in such a state.
Vaseline is also very good although in this weather the mud would stick to it :o

willl double check later i have never noticed any flaking under the scales .
