Hi again,

A friend has some 6 week old mixed breed chicks and has offered to give me some. As you all know, I am a complete beginner. What age do you think they would be suitable to move to their new home with me?

Thanks!

Hello, you could take them anytime now- they should be just off heat- as long as you feed them the right food- chick crumbs mixed with growers pellets to start them increase growers pellets and reduce chick crumbs. They will be easier to tame and will get used to you- you will need to keep them locked in the coop/run for a week or two to get used to their new home but they should soon settle down with a regular routine.
regards, David :)

OOH that's great, thanks for this!

She said she will let me know when they are ready so today I spent all day laying the foundations for the coop and putting it in situ and laying bricks along the gap at the bottom of next door's fence.......they have 2 unruly dogs.........the other way has an unruly ginger tom cat but somehow I can't see him ruling the roost for much longer........ :P

All tired now!
