Haven't seen any pink poo as yet! Will be on the look out for it tomorrow.

No, they're not really interested in eating anything! One of them has gone to bed tonight with a completely empty crop!

Have you tried chick crumb? maybe as a damp mash if it's too finely ground up for them? Last winter I tried a bit of the Alfachick mix my quails eat in a mash and the hens fought to get it down them. Higher protein than pellets and they do seem to like a change now and then.

Young beetroot leaves can be eaten with salad Sue. They are too good to feed to the chickens so you really are spoiling them!

When I first hung them up in the run they just looked at them and walked away. I then went out for a couple of hours and when I got back they'd completed gone!!!!!!! They weren't young leaves though Chris, they were very big and very slug chewed! Not very appetising if you're a human, but the girls obviously didn't object!

If you have loads of them ,cut them in small pieces with the stalks and freeze them for winter.Somtimes I will take small portion mix with oats and give this to chickens-and they love it;)Frozen peas works well too-just remember to defrost first.I also bake pumpkin, chop and freeze and make smaller portions for later.Mix that with soaked pellets or oats and disapiring fast:)Whole pumpkin can be wastefull at times-especially if they don't eat everything and mould set inn.

Try them on blackberries

Or elderberries - though there seems to be a national shortage of hedgerow berries this year. Down here there were hardly any ripe blackberries until too late in September for them to be palatable anyway.

Same here Marigold - only a few sloes and elderberries, no crab apples and everyone one I know with orchard fruit has had virtually no crop.

I'm so glad we picked enough sloes last year to keep some in the freezer! What would we do if we couldn't find any this year - no sloe gin!!!!!! :-)07 :-)07
