This is similar question to another post but I'm not sure how much of the same info applies.

I have been given a Forsham Ark chicken coop, still in excellent condition after about 8 years use but it has been unused (no chooks) for a year. It was just left exactly as it was when the last chook vacated (I have her now!) will any germs have died off by now or will there be germs from other sources that I need to take precautions against?

It has now been dismantled & I will give it a good spruce up before re-erecting.
Some advice please on what is necessary, I was intending to jet wash & leave to dry naturally on a (dry??!) day & possibly paint the outside but should I scrub with some sort of disinfectant & anti- red mite etc aswell?

Most diseases and parasites will have expired after a year but some like coccidial occysts can survive that long. I would give it a scrub with a disinfectant of your choice and then paint the inside with a diatom slurry paying extra attention to the crevices to prevent red mite.
