Bed Time

Sadly not, Swifts one of the last spring migrants to arrive first, to leave. I do enjoy their "screaming" group flights.
As a child I remember mum showing us the swallows sitting on the wires out front come autumn and we had to go and wish them a safe journey as it was supposed to bring good luck to the house if you did that. Or was it a cunning ruse to engage us with nature. I do know we used to go out every autumn and wish them good luck and a safe journey

Mine all go to bed at about 19.30
Always have, even the younger ones go up at the same time as the older girls.
And the 6 week old chicks go at 8pm.

Snap, it looked a snowstorm had happened underneath our Light Sussex, and one of them is right grumpy about it all.
My older girls all 3+ go into the coop about 19.30.

Moulting already!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Nearly 10pm so am about to go out to shut doors. The teenagers, of course, will have to be persuaded to go to bed

Pouring with rain last night no chance of getting the new girls away as they discovered that all sorts of things start moving about in the rain, worms, tiny frogs yum yum.

We had lots of rain on Monday night/Tuesday, so everything perked up here too. Except my vegetables! I planted loads of stuff this year, beans, broad beans, squash, courgette, and tons of carrots and parsnips. The beans, broadbeans, squash & courgettes are doing ok. I have about 4 parsnips, and out of planting the carrots a second time, because the first lot didn't appear at all, I have maybe two dozen carrots. That's out of two packets of seed!! No idea what's wrong, although I suspect the birds have been taking the seed. There seems to be a flock of sparrows flee from the veg garden every time I go out! You would think they wouldn't be able to get to the seed though, when it's covered, wouldn't you?
