Morning, Everyone,

I finally plucked up the courage to bath my muckiest pekin, Lemony, this morning. The sun is out and should stay out all day - hope so, as I've got Joanna's birthday campout today.

I must remember to load pics backwards next time.

Whenever I have to break out the hairdryer my girls love it.

Glad she's all clean again now for you :) Just you wait though, she'll be in a dust bath before you know it

How old is she? Amazing photos :D How easy was it to bath her? Never thought they could be as relaxed as that too be bathed and then the hairdryer on them  Just got ours yesterday so still learning the chook ways :)

Hi, Kim . Welcome to the forum.
Lemony was hatched last October, so that makes her about 7 months old. I must admit I put it of and put it off, basically being too chicken to attempt it myself. She loved it, though - the next day she was TWICE as dirty!
I only started mid February myself and was emboldened by Elmwood's videos - check them out on the pics section, or on You Tube.
What girls did you get, byt he way - let's see some pics.
I got a new girl on Wednesday - pics under "Goodbye to Sky and hello to Milly"
Speak to you soon, and welcome, again.

I er,rarely bath my large fowl. They don't seem to enjoy the way I bathe them as much as my bantams  .
My two Booted/Sablepoot like to be bathed together, they love it,and sit in the bath talking to me,each other, drinking the dirty water(yuk)and afterwards sitting on the sofa preening themselves.
I wasn't sure about bathing them together, but, they definitely prefer that, to being bathed alone.Luckily, they both fit in my washing up bowl, the towel drying afterwards is the worst bit,one sits with a towel wrapped around her while i remove excess water from the other. Then gets towelled before they both go and sit on my sofa, were we have a rest and a chat  .

Hi Bridgemontbelle,

Thank for your message and warm welcome :) Good for you having the guts to go ahead and give it a go.

I thought that i had been brave letting the girls all out into the garden for the day and was so worried about how i was going to get them all back in, but turned out well :D

The chooks seem to be so like kids with the bathing and then the next day getting more and more dirty!

Didn't know which breed to go for but was advised to try going for hybrids to start with so found a breeder not too far from us that came well recommended. So we went for a Blue Ranger, Sussex Ranger, Speckeldy and a Rhode Rock. They are all so differently natured.

Will go and have a look at your pics of Milly..., my daughter named her Sussex Ranger Millie! She has the funniest character out of them all.

Talk soon Kim

Hi me again! Just to say i have been on and had a look at your pics of Milly and she is absolutely beautiful! :D You must be so chuffed? I love her fluffy feet aswell. Kim

Thanks, Kim
Milly really does make me laugh.
Considering she was added by herself I thought there would be mayhem, but she is definitely NOT at the bottom, even though she only arrived on Wednesday and is the smallest.

Yesterday, I nearly fell off my chair laughing at her - wish I'd had the camera in my hand at just the right moment...

Every now and then my tomcat (Big Zee) decides he will chase a hen for fun. He comes up from behind and hurds them around the lawn, but gives up as soon as they flap their wings.
When we get new girls he considers them fair game, so yesterday he decided to chance his arm with Milly - his mistake was to change his approach, going in face first - well, Milly just walked up to him, stuck her neck right out and gave him a very long, very hard stare, just a couple of inches from his nose. He didn't stand it for long - he was soon hiding behind me!

That really told him - he'll have to content himself with exercising the other five.

Have you for some pics yet?

Mine are all pekins - I'd really love Hybrid large fowl (that's what I startred with), but Hubby only wants the small hens. Life (marriage) is a compromise. I'm working up to wondering whether I can sneak in a couple of bantam Rhode Island Reds and see if he notices - I really need more eggs than pekins are capable of laying.

This hobby is so much fun...now all I have to do is work out how to keep them OUT of the vegetable patch.
Have you seen Chiken Run? - mine don't break out, they break in, and in, and in...AAAHHHH
