Hi,
Im brand new to bird keeping so your help is hugely appreciated. I have 7 lovely girls, various breeds and a cockeral. All are between 26-30 weeks.
They have been wormed (Flubenvet) 3 weeks ago and getting 2nd dose now. Also 4 days in to antibiotic ( Baytril) and multivit course for a slight respiritory infection.
PROBLEM -3 of the birds have developed a large bald patch the size of your palm in the last 24hrs!! Definatley wasnt there before this are they are cuddled daily!
Vet advised no side affect of meds but has not seen birds as yet so unable to comment. No sign of red mites
(although inexperienced so I may be missing it) Breeder advised mites unlikely due to time of year and fact all housing etc is new. birds seem happy and are all laying. I thought it was a moult but been advised not by breeder.
Skin isnt red or sore - just bald. PS - other chooks eating the feathers too!
Started very quickly and very concerned.

Thanks for your help x :)

Have you noticed any of the birds that are not bald feather pecking the others? Are there any signs of lice?

If theres no sign of mites I would suspect you have a feather pecker in your midst. Probably as they could be under the weather due to the respiratory infection, extra protein is being taken by feather eating.
