Hi I have chinese painted quails they are around 4 months old i hatched them so i know that they have been fed on the best and kept clean, i have a number of them with no feathers what so ever on there back and it has nothing to do with the amount of males i have in with them knowing what they are like i try not to keep to many, so i was wondering if there was anyone could tell me what the problem is would be very grateful and so would the quails .

so, just how many males to female do you have?

have you checked for lice, red mite etc?

hi charlie have just had the same problem with two of my girls...turns out it was another girl. If the female is broody and not getting enough male attention she will 'pick' at their backs until they are bald. It happened overnight, their backs were completely bare. If you watch closely I'm sure you'll find the culprit. I have seperated my broody female off with a boy all of her own for a while, she's laying again and status quo has resumed. Hope this helps :)
